Galway Bay fm newsroom - A newly established committee aimed at boosting tourism in the Loughrea region will meet with Fáilte Ireland in the coming weeks after repeated requests for a face-to-face with the tourism body.
Loughrea Tourism is a sub-committee of the Loughrea Chamber of Commerce, and has been set up by councillors Michael Moegie Maher and Shane Donnellan.
The group aims to revitalise the town by highlighting the variety of attractions available to visitors – such as the lake, the town moat, hotel accommodation, eateries and shops.
One of the group’s main aims is to fight for the new loop off the Wild Atlantic Way to be extended into Loughrea and Craughwell - and 3000 people have signed a petition backing the proposal.
Fáilte Ireland will meet with the Loughrea Tourism group on the 28th of April.
Councillor Maher says it's been a struggle securing a meeting, and the group is frustrated at the reponse so far from Fáilte Ireland.
