Galway Bay fm newsroom - Fáilte Ireland has announced plans to develop a new maritime museum on the site of the current Galway City Museum at the Spanish Arch.
Over 6.6 million euro will be invested into the new 'Atlantic Museum Galway,' which will celebrate the role the Atlantic ocean has played in shaping Galway.
The investment is the largest to date by Fáilte Ireland for a tourist attraction under the current funding infrastructure and is expected to boost tourism numbers in the region.
The announcement is being made at a launch in the Galway City Museum this morning by Government Chief Whip and Galway West TD Seán Kyne.
