Galway Bay fm newsroom - There's been a very significant increase in the number of people in Galway being arrested for the sale and supply of drugs.
That's according to Galway Garda Chief Superintendent Gerry Roche, who says arrests are up by more than 170 percent so far this year.
Chief Superintendent Roche identified drugs and tackling organised crime in Galway as a key priority when he assumed the role late last year.
He says cocaine in particular has become a major problem in every corner of the county, and is now prevalent across all age groups and social classes.
Speaking to Sally-Ann Barrett, Chief Superintendent Roche said Gardaí are having success since more resources were transferred into the drugs unit.
