Galway Bay fm newsroom - An extension is being sought on the looming deadline for the public consultation on the South Galway Flood Relief Scheme.
It follows a meeting of the South Galway Flood Relief Committee last night, which was attended by local TD's and councillors.
The public consultation on the long-awaited scheme opened at the end of February, and is set to conclude on the 3rd of April.
Deputy Ciaran Cannon says there has been very positive engagement between the design team and landowners.
However, he says the engagement is limited by Covid-19 restrictions, and there are a great many legitimate questions that need answering.
Deputy Cannon believes many of these questions can only be addressed by getting consultants "on the ground" in South Galway to meet with landowners.
Noting this can only happen when restrictions are lifted, Fine Gael Deputy Cannon says the public consultation deadline must be extended.
