Galway Bay fm newsroom - A local TD has welcomed the reinstating of an exemption for farmers for the burning of green waste.

Roscommon/Galway TD Michael Fitzmaurice said has he received the confirmation of the exemption from the Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue.
He argues it's clear to see that the exemption is a practical tool for farmers where no other viable alternative exists.

It includes co-operation between farmers, local authorities and the fire service and is only allowed to occur during a prescribed period.
The Independent TD says there was no value in permanently removing the exemption...
