Galway Bay fm newsroom - Exam halls are opening at schools across the city and county as almost 7,000 Galway students begin their leaving and junior cert assessments.
Over 3,150 Galway students will begin the leaving cert this morning with English paper one.
Meanwhile, 3,500 Galway students will have their first taste of State exams this morning with the junior cert English exam.
Over four million examination papers have been securely distributed to examination superintendents across the country as the exam cycle begins.
Education Minister, Joe McHugh, says while the state exams are a big moment for young people, it's important to keep things in perspective.
Samaritans Deputy Regional Director, Theresa Bell, says the next few weeks can be an incredibly stressful time for students and their families.
