Galway Bay fm newsroom - An emergency meeting to discuss Galway's chronic traffic problems will get underway at City Hall this morning. (10am)
It follows the lodging of papers with the local authority by five dissatisfied councillors, who are demanding a full briefing from management on the situation.
Councillor Peter Keane is one of the five councillors who requested today's meeting - he says despite a raft of recent measures, traffic has continued to worsen and the city is now essentially at a standstill.
The request was submitted by Councillor Keane, Cllr Ollie Crowe, Cllr Mike Crowe, Cllr Cathal O'Conchuir and Cllr Collette Connolly amid growing frustration among city and county commuters.
The meeting takes place at City Hall at 10 this morning.
In the meantime, meetings are being arranged between the council and consultants Aecom, who've been tasked with finding solutions to the gridlock, and landowners which may be affected by improvement works.
Meanwhile, Bus Eireann drivers from across Galway will march on City Hall as the councillors arrive this morning.
They've scaled back a major march from a number of city roundabouts, and will now march from Ceannt station to City Hall to arrive at 9.45.
The drivers say they downsized the demonstration out of respect to the travelling public, and are asking Galway's elected representatives to support them in their campaign against pay cuts.
