Galway Bay fm newsroom - Eircom has been fined over 16 thousand euro for overcharging a Ballinasloe nursing home, and leaving it without a phone service for three weeks.
Communications watchdog ComReg received a complaint from the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood nursing home in Ballinasloe.
The home, which looks after 27 elderly nuns, tried to transfer its phone service last year to Eircom - trading as Eir - from another provider.
However, it was left without a service for three weeks and Eircom Ltd attemped to charge 1,200 euro for the installation of a new line.
According to the Irish Independent, Eircom Ltd pleaded guilty to four counts under the Communications Regulations Act and European regulations.
Judge John Brennan fined the company €16,500 euro.
