Galway Bay fm newsroom - Eight Gardai were injured in assaults while on duty across Galway throughout last year.
Of those, seven were classed as bruising, grazes or bites - while one strain, or sprain, was reported.
That's according to Freedom of Information figures, which show nationally, 223 assaults were reported across the country during 2019.
The worst division was the Kerry Garda Division - where 23 assaults were recorded last year.
Overall, a total of 162 officers across the country missed at least a day because of an attack - with 7 out of action for more than 6 months.
Jim Mulligan, the president of the Garda Representative Association, says officers need body cameras to protect themselves.
