Galway Bay fm newsroom - Funding of €6.5m has been approved to develop 125 new affordable homes in Galway.
It'll support two projects planned at Merlin Park in the city and at Raheen in Athenry.
The €6.5m earmarked for new affordable homes in Galway has been awarded under the Government's 'Serviced Sites Fund', which aims to develop homes on local authority lands in high demand areas.
It's part of a national allocation of €84m to support the delivery of 1,700 affordable homes nationwide.
The bulk of the funding for Galway - some €5.8m - will go towards 95 affordable homes at Merlin Park in the city.
While a further €1.3m will go towards 30 homes at Raheen in Athenry.
Gaeltacht Minister and Galway West TD Sean Kyne says the Serviced Sites Fund is a crucial support, as providing new homes is dependent on key infrastructure being in place.
