Galway Bay fm newsroom - 1.6 million euro in property tax revenue collected in Galway city will be used to fund other cash strapped councils.
Figures in today's Irish Independent show Galway city is one of a number of local authorities which will hand over property tax revenue to fund poorer councils.
The figures show that €40 million of the €202 million in property tax expected to be raised in Dublin next year will be used to build houses and roads in other counties.
The Irish Independent reports that €10 million of the €52 million raised from Cork property owners will also be handed over to a centralised Government fund and dispersed to rural local authorities struggling to balance their budgets.
Local authorities in Kildare, Meath, Wicklow, Clare and Galway city are among those which will hand over property tax revenue to fund poorer councils.
