Drug driving case against former Galway East TD Colm Keaveney adjourned for one month

A drug driving case against former Galway East TD Colm Keaveney has been adjourned for one month.

Mr. Keavney was arrested at a checkpoint at Cummer, Tuam on June 12th last year.

53 year old Colm Keaveney of Kilcreevanty, Tuam, is charged with driving with cocaine in his system, contrary to the Road Traffic Act.

A charge of driving without insurance, alleged to have occurred on the same date, was brought last month.

A further charge of driving without insurance on a separate date was also adjourned at Tuam District Court today.

Colm Keavney was elected to the Dáil in 2011, and first served under Labour before later joining Fianna Fáil.

He lost his seat in the 2016 election, but went on to win a seat on Galway County Council - but he did not contest June's local elections.
