There has been a drop in students attending the third level colleges in Galway in the past academic year.

CSO figures show there were just shy of 43,000 students attending either Atlantic Technological University or University of Galway in the 2021-2022 year.

While a thousand fewer students were studying at those colleges the following year.

The number of students attending either college dropped to 41,835 students for the 2022-23 academic year .

During that year, 22,650 students attended ATU, while 19,185 were studying at University of Galway

The most popular courses at ATU during that year was Business administration and law, followed closely by Engineering manufacturing and construction.

Those courses are also the most common at University of Galway, but Arts and Humanities, and Natural sciences mathematics and statistics courses are also remaining popular
