Galway Bay fm newsroom - Dominick Street Upper and Lower, as well as the Small Crane, are set to be removed from the city pedestrianisation plan for outdoor dining.
City Councillors were informed last evening, at a special briefing, that an executive order has been taken that aims to remove the routes from the plan due to health and safety concerns.
That's according to Fianna Fáil Councillor Peter Keane who says there were objections to the inclusion of the streets in the scheme because it would impact emergency service access and response times.
It comes as the City Council announced last month, that Dominick Street Upper and Lower, Forster Street and Woodquay would be partially closed to vehicular traffic, in the evening time, from next week to facilitate outdoor dining and the return of the hospitality sector.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, a spokesperson for the City Council said decisions are to be finalised later today.
The statement adds that discussions are ongoing with partners in the principal response agencies and it is working towards ensuring the facilitation of a great summer outdoors in Galway city.
Councillor Keane argues that precedent has been set with the facilitation of silent discos on Dominick Street Upper in the past.
He told Keith Finnegan on Galway Talks that a lot of affected businesses have already invested in outdoor furniture and he's confident a solution can be found.
