It comes as Irish Water is proceeding with long awaited works to upgrade the water treatment plant to address issues with the supply, where a boil water notice is still in place.

Crews from Irish Water and Galway County Council are on site carrying out upgrade works to rectify the issues at the treatment plant, with a view to lifting the boil water notice as quickly and as safely as possible.

While works are underway, customers in Gort and surrounding areas may experience temporary, intermittent low pressure or water outages from 5am to 12 noon each day from today (Tuesday 24 May) until Thursday.

To reduce the impact on customers, Irish Water says crews will reconfigure the network in order to maintain the water supply to as many areas as possible.

Local councillor Geraldine Donohue has welcomed the upgrade work this week but says the community has been frustrated.
