Galway Bay fm newsroom - A city councillor says despite confirmation of funding for vital roof repair works at Scoil Chaitríona in Renmore, the focus will now be in securing finance for a long awaited new building.
It comes as the current school campus, which is a mixture of prefabs and a building which was designed in the 1970s, has been long described as not fit for purpose.
Councillor Alan Cheevers says some areas of the large primary school are in poor condition.
Last month, emergency works were approved in principle pending clarification on the type of material to be used.
The Department has now approved the necessary funding under the emergency works scheme.
Councillor Cheevers says it's welcome but the staff and students need a modern build.
