From Galway Bay FM newsroom- A Minister has confirmed that the Department of Education has received no formal notice of an intention to close Scoil Náisiúnta Bhríde in Leitir Calaidh.
Minister Colm Brophy was responding to a query raised in the Dáil by Deputy Catherine Connolly.
However, he confirmed that the school had made an inquiry regarding the process of amalgamation with another school.
It's after the board of management at the school recently informed parents that the school was to close at the end of this school year.
Local residents have expressed upset at the sudden announcement, and the lack of clarity over the future of the school.
Speaking in the Dáil, Deputy Connolly said the situation - and the manner in which the school has behaved - is very strange.
Speaking in response, Minister Brophy said he was unable to give more detail - but he will bring the matter to the attention of Education Minister Norma Foley.
