Decision to allow hot food van in Clifden town overturned

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A bid to block a hot food van operating at Clifden Business Park has been successful.

Liam Keogh, C/O Dooley Architects in Clifden was initially granted planning permission by the county council to trade from a van in the forecourt of Unit 6, The Mart, Clifden.

That decision was appealed to An Bord Pleanála, which has overturned the grant of permission.

Planners at the county council had made a decision which allowed food to be sold, on occasion, at the business park on a take-away basis.

However an objector to the plan argued to An Bord Pleanála that the decision went against proper planning as 'casual trading' is not normally permitted at this location in Clifden.

The higher planning authority says that the zoning of the area - to protect business and enterprise - means such a proposal for a food van would not be compatible with the location's zoning.

The board also ruled that the van would impact on the circulation and parking area around Unit 6, The Mart, Clifden and therefore has refused permission.
