Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Dáil has heard calls for a major clampdown on underage drinking following concerns raised by a Galway East TD.
Fianna Fáil deputy Ann Rabbitte says she's becoming increasingly concerned by the level of underage drinking she's witnessing - and the lengtht teens are going to in a bid to consume alcohol.
She says a lack of enforcement is enabling teens to engage in unusual and potentially dangerous activities.
Addressing Justice Minister and Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald in the Dáil, deputy Rabbitte said more needs to be done to safeguard teenagers against the dangers of alcohol.
In response, Justice Minister and Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald said education remains vitally important in the fight against underage drinking.
