Galway Bay fm newsroom - Crowds attended the reposal of former Bishop of Galway Eamonn Casey at Galway Cathedral last evening.
Bishop Casey lay in repose before the main altar of the cathedral where people arrived to offer condolences to his family and friends.
Bishop Eamonn Casey was received into the cathedral by retired Bishop of Galway Martin Drennan.
In a short liturgy, Bishop Drennan said Eamonn Casey had made mistakes and 'paid a high price' for them.
Among the mourners was Bishop Casey's nephew, Wicklow T.D Pat Casey and a message of sympathy from the Archbishop of Armagh, Eamon Martin was read out.
Neither his son, Peter nor Peter's mother Annie Murphy travelled from the USA for the funeral, but it's understood, Peter plans to visit Ireland during a quiet trip later in the year.
Large crowds are expected to attend the funeral mass of Bishop Casey at Galway Cathedral at 2 this afternoon.
He will be interred in the Cathedral crypt afterwards
