Galway Bay fm newsroom - A county school principal says mask wearing for students has largely been met with support today from students and their families.
City Councillor John Connolly is Principal at Athenry Boys' School where students from third class began wearing face coverings from today.
Those with a medically-certified exemption are the only pupils who won't have to wear a face covering.
John Connolly told Keith Finnegan on Galway Talks it's one more mitigation measure to prevent the virus from spreading.
Concerns have been raised that the measure is not fair on young children who have already endured numerous restrictions during the pandemic.
Education Minister Norma Foley says children whose glasses keep fogging up will need to visit their GP for an exemption.
