Galway Bay fm newsroom - Waterways Ireland has been granted approval to carry out repairs at Meelick Weir on the river Shannon.
The works, in the townland of Keeloge, also involve the replacement of the walkway which was damaged by flooding.
The works led by Waterways Ireland will involve the construction of a 300 metre new steel walkway.
The existing plant house will also be relocated to allow a new ramped access to be constructed for public use of the walkway.
Masonry repairs are to be made to the original weir structure and the weir boards will be replaced with new tilting weirs to improve safety.
County planners have attached 10 conditions.
One states the applicant is to submit an updated Environmental Management Plan in consultation with the NPWS and the IFI.
A restriction has also been set for noise levels.
