Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway county councillors have voted unanimously against any increase in Local Property Tax next year.
At the monthly meeting in County Hall this week, the group also agreed to request a meeting with the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government in order to press for an increase in direct funding from the State.
Members voted unanimously in support of a motion put forward by councillors Martina Kinnane and Tim Broderick which asks that property tax will not be upped in 2020.
Councillor Jim Cuddy said that the immediate requirement is to try and get what he called 'a fair share' of funding directly from government.
Councillor Mary Hoade stated that Galway is treated unfairly from a government fund which supports various counties and local authorities.
Galway, she said, only gets €13m, while Donegal gets €21m and Tipperary gets €18m.
Councillor Dermot Connolly said there was a promise that the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government would meet the council in September and that such a meeting is urgently needed.
