Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway County Councillors are to be asked tomorrow to support a call on the Government to reject the Mersosur trade deal.
The controversial deal would see 99 thousand tonnes of beef imported from South America to the EU - and has received a strong backlash from farmers.
A recent Dáil vote overwhelmingly rejected the proposed deal - however, the motion is not binding and does not have to be adopted by the Government.
Loughrea Councillor Shane Curley is now seeking the support of his colleagues at tomorrows meeting of the County Council to put further pressure on the Government.
Fianna Fail Councillor Curley says the Mercosur EU deal will plunge our beef industry into chaos and must be rejected by Ireland.
