Ballinasloe area councillor Declan Geraghty says panic buying is putting excess pressure on supply and if consumers eased off, it would give distributors a chance.
It comes as Ministers will hold an emergency meeting later to sign off on plans that would see a 15 to 20 cent reduction on a litre of petrol and diesel.

Councillor Karey McHugh said that something had to be done to help farmers if tillage production is to be increased.
However, she said that care had to be taken in any such move on diesel in case the companies increased the price and nullified the benefit of any removal of excise duties.
