Galway Bay fm newsroom - A county councillor says a newly published report highlights the high levels of threats and harassment experienced by public representatives.
The report has been released by the Association of Irish Local Government, of which Councillor Mary Hoade is currently serving as President.
The report found that almost half of councillors who took part in the survey have considered leaving their role due to abuse.
60 percent said they had faced threats via social media, while 33 percent experienced abuse in a face-to-face setting.
Tuam area councillor Hoade says the AILG will roll out training programmes for councillors to ensure they're best placed to meet the rising problem.
