The storm brought significant rainfall last night but the south of the country was the worst affected, especially parts of Cork where severe flooding has damaged roads and buildings.

However, the council is warning the people of Galway that the storm is not over - and the county is still subject to a status orange rainfall warning which will remain in place until six o'clock this evening.

More heavy bursts are expected this afternoon and evening - and water will build up on roads across Galway.

Spokesperson for the county council, Jim Cullen says roads may be waterlogged right through the night and into tomorrow.
