Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway cycling campaign is urging the local authority to follow Waterford's lead in developing a greenway between Athenry and Tuam.
The 45 kilometre Deise Greenway opened in March following the conversion of a section of the disused Dungarvan to Waterford railway.
A delegation from the Waterford project met county councillors this week to share their experience on the process.
Shane Foran of Galway cycling campaign says a similar scheme would bring a massive boost to the county.
