Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway county council is to seek funding to carry out a complete hydrological survey on the river from Athenry to Clarinbridge.
It comes as Athenry has experienced significant flooding following excessive rainfall last month.
According to Met Éireann’s climate statement for the month of August, Athenry recorded the highest level of rainfall across the country last month.
Minister for Rural Affairs and Galway East TD Seán Canney says there are many bridges and structures along the river from Athenry to Clarinbridge which are impeding the flow of water.
He says he has highlighted the issue with the Office of Public Works and Galway County Council and funding will be sought - to hear more, tune in to Galway Bay fm news on the hour...
