It follows criticism from Galway West TD Éamon Ó Cuív who says no local authority in the country has drawn down funding from the Local Improvement Scheme this year.

The Local Improvement Scheme provides funding to help local authorities carry out improvement works on private and non-publicly maintained roads.

In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, the county council has confirmed 36 projects across the county are substantially complete and funding will be drawn down for them in the next two weeks.

The funding allocated to the county under the scheme amounts to 856-thousand euro.

Fianna Fail Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív believes more funding should be provided by the government.
