Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway County Council is being criticised for ruling out a trial one-way traffic system in Oranmore.
The MÓR Action Group recently submitted the detailed proposal, along with a petition with gathered almost 1,500 signatures.
It suggested that Main Street from the bridge to the Castle Road be turned into a one-way system, to create more space for walking, cycling, sitting, and shopping.
They say the local authority has now ruled out the plan, and instead pointed out that an upgrade of the existing Oranmore Traffic Management Plan is the way forward.
However, campaigners argue this plan closed for submissions four years ago, and very little has been implemented since.
They also point out the Government has made Covid-19 and Active Travel funding available for towns and villages to improve their streetscapes.
Campaigner Aonghus Kelly says the ultimate point of the one-way trial is to try and improve life in the village for everyone, not just cars.
