Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Acting CEO of Galway County Council has rejected claims that archives relating to the Tuam mother and baby home have not been released.
Kevin Kelly told today’s meeting at County Hall that there is no question that the local authority is not making records available.
He stressed efforts are focused on making records available in an appropriate manner and in line with statutory requirements on how personal information is dealt with.
The discussion followed the observation of a minute's silence in the chamber for all with a connection to the Bon Secours home and for all who passed away there.
The CEO provided assurances after Connemara area councillor Tom Healy told the meeting that survivors are not happy with the local authority.
He claimed that while other local authorities nationwide have released their archives, Galway County Council has not.
Tuam area councillor Shaun Cunniffe asked if there are sufficient resources to redact certain information in the archives held if requested.
Kevin Kelly said there is some misunderstanding about the records held by the local authority.
He added an interim report is expected from the Commission of Investigation in the very near future.
The CEO concluded that Galway County Council will undertake the role of consultation that it has been entrusted with.
