County Cathaoirleach says Garda investigation into fire at Kiltulla property needs time and space

Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Cathaoirleach of Galway county council James Charity says the Garda investigation into a fire at a house in Kiltulla yesterday needs time and space to determine its cause.

The fire broke out at the property in the Carnmore area shortly before 5am yesterday causing significant damage.

The house had been controversially purchased by the city council in the county council's administrative area earlier this year for use as social housing for one family.

James Charity has described the incident as 'deeply concerning' but has stressed the Garda investigation must be given the time and space it needs to come to a firm conclusion.

He adds that regardless of the cause of the fire, which will be determined in time, it is disappointing to see any house end up like this after significant expenditure of public funds.

In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, the city council said that as the Garda investigation is underway, the local authority has no comment to make at this time.
