Galway Bay fm newsroom - The County Cathaoirleach has requested the Garda Chief Superintendent to increase COVID-19 compliance checkpoints as a daily record number of 604 virus cases were recorded in Galway last evening.
Cathaoirleach James Charity has made an urgent appeal to the Galway public to re-double efforts to prevent the further spread of the virus.
It comes as Galway's daily case-load surpassed all other counties last evening at 604, with Dublin recording 574, Mayo at 466, Cork with 187, Limerick with 138 and the remaining 1,117 cases spread across all other counties.
Cathaoirleach Charity has warned that while the picture nationally is improving, the position in Galway appears to be getting worse.
He says he has been contacted by many people in recent days concerned about compliance with lockdown measures, people travelling outside their 5k radius to places like the prom in Salthill for exercise.
The Cathaoirleach has asked all citizens across the county to re-double their efforts and says the only thing within our control is our own personal actions to adhere to restrictions....
