The development is located at two single storey buildings which were formerly used as the local authority's loughrea area office, and have since fallen into a state of disrepair.

The development will provide for five two-storey terraced dwellings with the units expected to be delivered in 2020.

Fine Gael councillor Moegie Maher proposed the Part 8 and said the units are badly needed in the town.

Local Fianna Fail councillor Shane Curley said there seems to be a huge demand for 1, 2 and 4 bed accommodation in the area.

Director of Services Michael Owens said the housing strategic policy committee intends to review the housing allocation scheme.

He told the meeting 80% of the county's housing need is for 1 and 2-bed properties and the build programme generally reflects the requirement for an increase in 2-bed properties.
