Councillors beg for more money as Athenry and Oranmore roads still worst funded in Galway despite heaviest traffic

The road network in Athenry and Oranmore is the worst funded in the county, despite carrying the heaviest traffic.

That was the key message - and the source of much frustration - as councillors discussed the 2025 budget for the district at County Hall this week.

Funding is allocated based on the length of the road network - which means other areas like Tuam, Loughrea and Connemara receive far higher funding.

Councillor David Collins told David Nevin it's quite frustrating and a fairer system is needed.
