Galway Bay fm newsroom - Paint and traffic lights will not solve the chronic traffic issues at Parkmore.
That’s according to Athenry/Oranmore councillor Peter Feeney.
The issue was raised at County Hall today, where a number of councillors voiced their concerns over the impact the congestion is having on employees – thousands of whom travel from the county to work in Parkmore.
The city bypass was also mentioned during the discussion – however councillors are divided on whether or not this will alleviate the problem at Parkmore.
Cllr Malachy Noone says the road network within the estate itself needs to be examined as part of the process.
CEO Kevin Kelly says both the city and county councils are working on the problem, and engaging with the business community in the area.
Kevin Kelly stressed there has been a variety of different measures considered, each with their own timescale.
He says HR officers at companies in the estate are working to help alleviate some of the hardship being experienced by employees.
Councillor Peter Feeney argues a new road network is the only answer.
