Williamstown Councillor Declan Geraghty is to stand for Independent Ireland in Galway East in the upcoming general election.
It's after Michael Fitzmaurice unexpectedly announced he was remaining in Roscommon-Galway, despite being widely tipped to switch to Galway East due to significant boundary changes.
Councillor Geraghty says he loves the rural way of life, and he wants to do everything he possibly can to protect it.
He was first elected to Galway County Council as an Independent in 2019, and was comfortably re-elected for Independent Ireland in June's local elections.
