Galway Bay fm newsroom - People Before Profit Galway is calling on the City Council to consider social housing as part of a proposed masterplan for local authority lands at Sandy Road.
City councillors are set to discuss a motion today calling for a masterplan to be drawn up for 11 acres of council owned property at Sandy Road.
If approved by councillors, the proposal could lead to the transformation of the Sandy Road site into a mixed-use development with retail, commercial and residential units.
The site currently houses a Council yard and a number of industrial units.
However, People Before Profit Galway says public lands should be used for public housing.
The group says the 11 acres could provide a well-planned community with access to local schools, services and public transport.
