Galway Bay fm newsroom - Heavy goods vehicles may have to be prevented from using Shop Street in the city, which is a pedestrianised area.
At a meeting of the city council this week, councillors were told that heavy goods vehicles are allowed in at certain times of the morning in order to bring deliveries to business premises.
Councillors Terry O' Flaherty and Pauline O' Reilly were concerned that Shop Street may sometimes be used by heavy goods vehicles as a route through the city thereby circumventing the system.
Councillors were anxious that the status of the street as a pedestrian area be fully honoured.
