From Galway Bay FM newsroom- Galway County Councillors have received assurances that work will be carried out on all roads scheduled for improvements this year, despite rising costs.
There were also indication that more money may become available for small local roads.
Derek Pender, Head of Roads and Infrastructure services told Galway County Councillors that work will be carried out on all roads that are included in the 2022 schedule of improvements.
Mr Pender said that there could be some reduction in the amount of work which could be in the region of 10%.
He said it has been anticipated when the costings were done that costs would increase this year and that allowances were made for that.
Therefore he said no drastic reductions in works would occur and that no 'Plan B' was needed - following a question raised by Councillor Declan Geraghty.
Councillor Liam Carroll had also drawn attention to a big increase in material costs ranging from 35% to 57%.
Derek Pender said he was also hopeful that further monies may come for the Local Improvement Scheme.
This scheme is used to improve roads serving a number of houses and farms in areas locally.
