A special meeting of the city council took place last evening to discuss the various proposals and what project should be selected as a priority.

Instead of selecting just one of the four projects proposed, councillors chose to put forward ALL the proposals for consideration for funding, in order of merit.

Second on the list is a proposal by a consortium for a world-class aqua and gym facility at Cappagh Road in Knocknacarra.

Third on the list is a project proposal by Galway Rowing Club for a water sports centre of excellence at Dyke Road.

The fourth proposal selected is a plan for a sports centre in Doughiska which would involve Renmore Gymastics.
