Council approves multi-million euro Sports Centre of Excellence in Oranmore

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The county council has approved plans for a multi-million euro sports Centre of Excellence in Oranmore.

Renville Sports Project Committee on behalf of Oranmore Maree GAA Club has been granted permission for the development at Renville West.

The centre will be located on 34 acres of land at Renville Park and include all-weather and floodlight full size pitches, running tracks, a clubhouse and children’s playground.

County planners have attached 15 conditions to the grant of planning permission.

One condition stipulates that the all-weather pitches can’t be used after 10 o’clock at night.

Also, a stage 2 Road Safety Audit must be submitted to the council for agreement before work begins.

A buffer zone must also be created between the development on the Tureen stream and also the nearby ringfort which is a protected monument.

Project committee chairperson, Sean Kinsella says discussion will now be focused on government grants and fundraising.

He says the centre will be community driven.
