Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Corrandulla woman is this morning swimming across the English Channel.

33 year old Deirdre Newell set off from Dover at 1am this morning and is expected to complete the 22 mile journey and arrive at the French coastline this evening.
Ms. Newell is a Captain in the Defence Forces based at Cathal Brugha Barracks and has completed several overseas tours in Lebanon and Syria.

Her support team for the channel crossing attempt includes Galway native and renowned adventurer Gavin Hennigan.
