Galway Bay fm newsroom - A controversial waste transfer station in Ballinasloe has been raised during a Seanad debate on water quality.
Senator Aisling Dolan said the granting of a permit on Friday for the operatation of the facility at Pollboy had "shocked the whole of Ballinasloe".
It follows years of community action against repeated attempts to advance the development - including a High Court win in 2018.
Addressing Minister Malcom Noone, Senator Dolan said the site of the waste transfer station lies in low-lying flood plains close to the River Suck.
She added that numerous expert reports have been submitted on the potentially adverse impact on the water supply.
