Galway Bay fm newsroom – It's hoped a contractor will be onsite next month to carry out works on a long awaited realignment project at an accident blackspot outside Dunmore.
The area in the townland of Carrowmunniagh, known locally as Twenty Minute Hill, has been reduced to one lane with a traffic light system since late 2018.
The site was raised at a meeting of the Roads and Transport Strategic Policy Committee, where engineers advised the scheme has gone out to tender with the successful bidder to be announced shortly.
Tuam area councillor Pete Roche, who is Chair of the SPC, says the delays due to the traffic management system have caused serious concerns - with the one-lane system now approaching its third Christmas on a very busy national route.
He says the works are expected to take several weeks but could reach completion before Christmas.
