Galway County Council has confirmed it has contingency plans in place for any potential flooding along the Curraghline stretch of the N84 Headford Road.
The matter was raised at a meeting this week by Councillor Andrew Reddington, who noted that water levels in the Clare River along this vital commuter artery are extremely high.
Council management said while they're aware of the high water levels, there's little they can do if the river does burst its banks.
But they said everything that can be done has been done - with boots ready to go on the ground, signage prepared, and diversionary routes selected.
Councillor Reddington says flooding along the Curraghline can have devastating consequences.
