Galway Bay fm newsroom:
Construction is set to begin shortly on a new cancer treatment centre at University Hospital Galway.
The centre will be built on the site of the former acute mental health unit.
The planned three-storey oncology unit will have seven radiotherapy treatment vaults, a brachytherapy suite, two CT rooms, on-treatment support, treatment planning support and administration facilities.
Significant work has been underway over the last six months to clear the site for construction to begin.
