Galway Bay fm newsroom - Concerns are being raised over escalating anti-social behavior and feuds on the east side of the city.
Councillor Alan Cheevers says there's a real fear now that someone will get seriously injured before the situation can be brought under control.
Councillor Cheevers is working with Councillor Noel Larkin to tackle the estates worst effected, as part of their work on a city joint policing sub-committee.
It comes as Galway city centre has been placed under the spotlight in recent weeks due to a series of widely publicised incidents of anti-social behavior.
Councillor Cheevers points to the recent Streets of Galway Road Race event that saw a huge Garda presence in the city - and argues this should be replicated on weekends to tackle potential issues.
Councillor Larkin told Keith Finnegan on Galway Talks that in terms of ongoing fueds, Gardaí need to be given powers to tackle them far more effectively.
