Concerns raised over impact of planned private carpark in Tuam

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A number of submissions have been received on plans for a new private car park in Tuam town.

Joseph O'Toole of Supervalu has applied for permission to install a temporary staff car park for a duration of five years.

The site for the proposed development at Townparks is located within a Zone of Archaeological Potential.

The planned works are also close to a number of protected structures.

County planners had originally been due to make a decision on the plans in early February - however the expected decision date has now been pushed out until August.

A number of submissions on the proposals have been received.

One outlines concerns over the potential risk to protected structures in the area.

Another argues that Tuam town does not require any additional off-street parking, as the town's multi-storey carpark is never more than 20% full.

The County Council planning department is currently assessing the submissions, and a decision on the development is due in August.
